What happens at the Heritage Center of Clark County after the doors close each evening? You will need a reservation for “A Night at the Museum” to find out.
On March 8, the community is invited to take part in an entertaining evening of history, laughter, music, and dance. Beginning at 7 p.m., small groups of guests will be taking guided flashlight tours of the museum to meet the historical people of Clark County and Springfield’s past. Col. George Rogers Clark, and Chief Black Hoof will relive their face off at the Battle of Peckuwe. Ladies in hoop skirts will mix with farmers from the 1920’s as the stories of Clark County will be told by those who used the artifacts in the museum in their real life. Shoppers will walk the streets of 1940’s Springfield. Dancers will grace the entry hall. The infamous Fair at New Boston “Ratcatcher” will make sure that no “vermin” are free to bother visitors. The military section will come to life with uniformed service people from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War to modern times. No cannon will be shot, but there will be an additional Revolutionary War cannon to see close up. A reception for all time periods will be held after the event. Characters will be portrayed by living history specialists from the Fair at New Boston, the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association (GRCHA), the Clark County Historical Society, and Hertzler House. Proceeds are to benefit The Heritage Center of Clark County. Reservations are required for this event. Visitors will need to call to reserve a tour start time and to purchase tickets. Tours will begin at 10 minute intervals from 7 – 9 p.m. Visitors are asked to arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled tour.
