SUMMARY

This fall, the Porch Festival at South Fountain Avenue will be hosted for the very first time. There will be events and activities for all ages, from baked goods and antique sales, home and garden tours, local artists and craftsmen exhibitions, to kooky science projects and crafts for kids, and possibly a haunted house. It will be hosted on South Fountain Avenue between the streets of Clark and Liberty. Parking will be available on the side streets and at the First Baptist Church.

MORE ABOUT THE “FESTIVAL”

The "festival" is unique because it will highlight one of the prized characteristics of the historic homes of South Fountain Avenue: their porches. Virtually every home on South Fountain, from the most elaborately designed and constructed to the most humble and functional, has a porch. Porches were community playgrounds where people got together to entertain, to rest, and to build friendships.

HOW THE FESTIVAL WORKS

When you come to the festival, you will see a variety of activities. You will be able to purchase items such as antiques, collectibles, baked goods, artwork, and more. You will be able to engage your children in some fun activities such as kooky science projects, outdoor races, or arts and crafts. You might be able to see guided tours of select homes and gardens or visit a "haunted house".

THE GOALS OF THE FESTIVAL

The goal of this event is to create an enjoyable experience for all ages, share the unique South Fountain Avenue neighborhood, and raise money for the South Fountain Avenue Community Revolving Fund. This fund enable homeowners of modest means to borrow money with a repayment schedule that does not put undue hardship on personal finances while helping to beautify, advance, and preserve the neighborhood as a whole.
