Weaver Chapel

Start Time: 4 pm

Cost:

Trudy Faber’s Annual Organ Recital is free and open to the public. Recital takes place at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in Weaver Chapel.

The hour-long recital features “Prelude and Fugue in E minor” of J. S. Bach and “Sonata in D Major” by Rheinberger. In recent years, Faber began including compositions of women in her programs, and this year she will play a piece by the French woman composer Jeanne Demessieux.

At Weaver Chapel, the audience can not only hear, they can see the organ, and that makes the piece “Do Not Go Gentle” by Persichetti, especially interesting as Faber will play only with her feet – from two- to- four notes at once. The stanzas of the Dylan poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night,” which was the inspiration for the composition, have been interspersed by Faber throughout the piece and will be narrated by Professor Emeritus of English J. Arthur Faber.

Faber will end the recital with “Variations on the Star-Spangled Banner” by Dudley Buck.
