  • MIGIWA ORIMO / ANNE STRAUS / KATE KERN at the Springfield Museum of Art

Three contemporary artists, Migiwa Orimo, Anne Straus and Kate Kern from the region: Orimo, a Yellow Springs artist from Japan; Kern resides in Cincinnati; and Straus from nearby Wyoming, Ohio. Working through very different media, each artist creates an intensely personal body of work. In our noisy culture of sound bites and quick and easy certainty, Migiwa Orimo will create a multi-media installation that explores variations on silence and elements of doubt. Inspired by imagery from West Africa, Anne Straus uses geometric symbols and patterns found in the natural world to create a new, organic reality in her encaustic (beeswax and oil paint) paintings. Kate Kern will be exhibiting a selection of drawings about seeking, about gathering and sifting through knowledge—knowledge that is based on close observation—in search of a larger meaning.
